Delivery, timing & service area
Do you deliver to my town?
Delivery covers about 80 miles from Shelton. That is all of Connecticut except the far northeast corner, plus Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties in New York. For towns near Putnam, Thompson or Woodstock, call to confirm. See the service area map.
Are you local? Where does the unit come from?
Units come out of Shelton, CT 06484. Tier Site Sanitation is run by Tier, the owner, and quotes come from the same people who schedule the trucks. Read more on the about page.
When is the earliest you can get it here?
Same-day delivery is possible Monday to Saturday when you call before 12 noon. Most other orders arrive the next business day. A same-day rush fee may apply, and it is quoted before you book.
How far in advance should I book?
Book 3 or more business days ahead for May to October weekends. Holiday weekends and June to September wedding Saturdays need 1 to 2 weeks. Weekday job site orders usually go out the next business day. See how far ahead to book.
What time will it be delivered?
Deliveries run during business hours, Monday to Saturday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. An exact time slot is not set in advance. The driver calls ahead before arriving so you know when to expect the truck.
Can you have it there before my event starts?
Event units are usually dropped off the day before your event, so the unit is in place well before guests arrive. A Saturday party gets a Friday drop-off. The extra day is not charged.
Do I need to be there when you deliver it?
You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and the truck can reach it. Use cones, tape or a flag. The driver calls ahead before arriving, so you can answer questions by phone.
Will the driver call before he arrives?
The driver calls ahead before every delivery. Keep your phone on that day. If something blocks the spot, like a parked car, you can sort it out before the truck pulls in.
I only have an intersection or a pin for the site. Is that OK?
A pin or intersection makes delivery harder to find. Give the nearest street address and describe the spot, or send a marked map photo with your order. New job sites without a number often use a neighboring address.
Do you deliver to New York?
Delivery covers Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties in New York, including White Plains. Towns 40 to 80 miles from Shelton show a distance charge on the quote. See the Westchester County page.
Same-day & emergencies
Can you deliver a porta potty today?
Same-day delivery is available Monday to Saturday when you call before 12 noon. Call (475) 326-5810 with your address, unit type and quantity. A rush fee may apply and is quoted upfront. See same-day porta potty rental.
How much is the rush fee for same-day?
The same-day rush fee usually runs $75 to $150, based on distance from Shelton. You see it on the quote before you book. Typical Shelton-area quote; your itemized quote is final.
My septic tank failed. How fast can I get a porta potty?
A failed septic system is a common same-day order. Call before noon, Monday to Saturday, and a unit can usually go out that day. Monthly billing fits a long repair. See residential porta potty rental.
Our plumbing went down and the building has no bathrooms. Can you help today?
Two or more units can go out the same day when you call before noon, Monday to Saturday. Tell us the headcount so the order matches the crew. Add a hand-wash station if there is no working sink.
Our other porta potty company didn't show up. Can you deliver?
A replacement unit can usually go out the same day if you call before noon, Monday to Saturday. Have the address and unit spot ready. A rush fee may apply and is quoted first.
If you can't do today, can you do first thing tomorrow?
Next-business-day delivery is the normal schedule for most orders. Orders after noon usually go out the next business day. The driver calls ahead, and you do not need to be home if the spot is marked.
Can I call on Sunday for an emergency?
Phones and dispatch are open Monday to Saturday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and closed Sunday. Send the quote form on Sunday and it gets answered Monday morning. For weekend events, book by Friday.
Our water is shut off for a day. Can we get one first thing?
A short water shutoff is a good fit for an event-style rental. One flat price covers 1 to 5 days. Book a day ahead for next-business-day delivery, or call before noon for same-day.
Weekends & holidays
Do you deliver on Saturdays?
Saturday delivery is available, and same-day works on Saturday if you call before noon. Weekend events usually get a Friday drop-off and a Monday pickup so the unit is ready early.
My party is Saturday. Do you drop it off Friday?
Friday drop-off and Monday pickup is the standard plan for weekend events. The unit sits ready a full day before your party. The extra days are not charged.
Do I get charged for the extra days if you pick up Monday?
The extra days are not charged. A weekend event unit is one flat price for 1 to 5 days, so Friday to Monday costs the same as one day.
Can you pick it up Saturday night after the party?
Pickup is on Monday for weekend events. Leave the unit where it is, closed up, and the truck gets it Monday. If your venue needs it gone sooner, ask when you book.
Monday is a holiday. When will you pick it up?
After a holiday Monday, pickup moves to Tuesday. Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends work this way. Leave the unit closed and reachable until the truck comes. The extra day is not charged.
Do you have anything left for the 4th of July weekend?
July 4th weekend books up early. Reserve 1 to 2 weeks ahead for the best chance. Call (475) 326-5810 to check what is open for your date.
How far ahead should I book a June wedding Saturday?
Book 1 to 2 weeks ahead for June to September wedding Saturdays. Restroom trailers fill faster than standard units, so reserve those even earlier. See wedding restroom rental.
It's only for Sunday. Do I still keep it Friday to Monday?
A Sunday event gets the same Friday drop-off and Monday pickup. The office is closed Sundays, so the unit is set up ahead. You pay one flat price, not extra days.
Pricing & fees
How much is it to rent a porta potty?
A standard event unit is typically $195 to $285 for 1 to 5 days, including delivery and pickup. A job site unit is typically $165 to $245 per 28-day cycle with weekly service. Typical Shelton-area quote; your itemized quote is final. See porta potty rental cost.
Is that price per day or for the whole time?
Event prices cover the whole rental of 1 to 5 days. Job site prices cover a full 28-day cycle with weekly service included. There is no daily rate.
What's the total, all said and done?
The itemized quote shows the full total. It lists the unit, delivery and pickup, servicing and tax on one page. What you are quoted is what you pay unless you change the order.
Are there any fees on top, like fuel or card fees?
No fuel surcharge and no card fee are added. Extra lines only show up for added items. Examples are a same-day rush, an extra service visit or a distance charge for far towns.
Does the price include delivery and pickup?
Event prices include delivery and pickup. Job site rentals add a one-time delivery charge on the first 28-day cycle, typically $65 to $125. Typical Shelton-area quote; your itemized quote is final.
Is there tax on top of that?
Sales tax is listed as its own line on the quote, so the total you see already includes it. Tax-exempt groups pay no tax once they send their exemption certificate.
Is the price the same if I order two?
Two or more units on the same trip share one delivery. The per-unit cost usually goes down. Your quote shows each unit and the delivery line.
Does the price depend on my address?
Distance matters. Towns within about 40 miles of Shelton usually have no distance charge. Towns 40 to 80 miles out show a distance line on the quote.
How much is a hand-wash station?
A 2-station hand-wash station is typically $95 to $165 for an event, or $125 to $195 per 28-day cycle. Typical Shelton-area quote; your itemized quote is final. See hand-washing station rental.
How much is a wheelchair-accessible porta potty?
A wheelchair-accessible unit is typically $265 to $375 for an event, or $235 to $325 per 28-day cycle. Typical Shelton-area quote; your itemized quote is final.
Can you email or text me the quote to show my boss?
Quotes go out by email or text, usually within 15 minutes during business hours. Each line is itemized, so it is easy to forward to a spouse, boss or board for approval.
Do you offer nonprofit or senior discounts?
Tax-exempt groups pay no sales tax with a valid certificate. The best way to keep cost down is to book early, pick a weekday if possible and order the right number of units.
Does a lock or a specific spot cost more?
Placing the unit where you mark it does not cost extra, as long as the truck can reach it. Ask about a lock hasp when you book if the unit will be in a public spot.
Billing, 28-day cycles & pickup
I only need it for a week. Am I charged for the full month?
Job site and long rentals bill per 28-day cycle, so one week is one cycle. For a short event, the flat event price covers 1 to 5 days instead. Ask which fits your dates.
So the price is for 28 days, not per day?
The construction price covers 28 days with weekly service included. There is no daily or weekly rate on job site units. Keeping it 10 days or 28 days costs the same.
What happens after the first 28 days?
The rental renews for another 28-day cycle, with weekly service, until you call or text for pickup. Later cycles drop the delivery charge. There is no long-term contract. See long-term porta potty rental.
Why is the first month more expensive?
The first 28-day cycle includes the one-time delivery charge, typically $65 to $125. Later cycles bill only the unit and weekly service. Typical Shelton-area quote; your itemized quote is final.
Is there a contract? What if I'm done early?
There is no long-term contract. Call or text for pickup when the job ends, even if it ends early. Billing stops at the end of that cycle, and there is no penalty for finishing early.
Do I have to call for pickup, or will you just come get it?
Call or text for pickup on job site rentals. The unit stays and renews each cycle until you ask. Event pickups are booked with the order, so you do not need to call.
Can I leave the removal date open?
Job site rentals have no end date. They renew every 28 days until you request pickup. That works well for remodels and home builds that run long.
Is there a removal fee at the end?
Delivery and pickup are on your first quote, so no surprise removal fee shows up at the end. What you are quoted is what you pay unless you change the order.
Can I keep an event unit longer than 5 days?
The event flat price covers 1 to 5 days. For longer use, ask for a quote. Rentals past a week usually move to the 28-day cycle with weekly service.
Can you deliver the day my old company's billing ends?
Pick the delivery date that matches the end of your old cycle. Book 3 or more business days ahead so the swap happens the same day without overlap.
Payment & cancellation
Do I have to put down a deposit?
Payment is by card at booking, for the full quoted amount. There is no separate deposit and no card fee. Businesses can ask for invoicing after the first 28-day cycle.
What cards do you take?
Major credit and debit cards are accepted at booking. There is no card fee added. The billing ZIP code must match the card, or the payment may decline.
Can I pay by check when the driver arrives?
Payment happens at booking by card, not at delivery, so the driver does not collect anything. Businesses on long rentals can request invoicing after the first cycle.
Do you work off purchase orders?
The first cycle is paid by card at booking. After that, businesses can request invoicing. Include your PO number with the order and it can go on the invoice.
What's your cancellation policy?
Cancellation is free up to 48 hours before scheduled delivery. Inside 48 hours, a trip fee may apply. Full details are on the rental terms page.
Can I add a sink or swap to a wheelchair-accessible unit later?
Changes are easiest at least 48 hours before delivery. Call or text, and you get an updated quote that shows any price change. Mid-rental swaps are possible but may need a truck trip.
Can someone else pay for it?
Another person can pay with their card at booking. Send their name and email with the order so the quote and receipt go to them. The billing ZIP must match their card.
We're tax-exempt. How does that work?
Send your tax-exempt certificate by email to info@sheltonportapotty.com before booking. Sales tax comes off the quote. Delivery, servicing and the other lines stay the same.
Servicing & cleaning
How often do you service it?
Job site units get weekly service, included in the 28-day price. Each visit pumps, cleans, sanitizes and restocks paper and sanitizer. Twice-weekly service is available. See how often porta potties are serviced.
Does weekly cleaning come with it or is that extra?
Weekly cleaning is included on job site and long-term rentals. Each visit pumps, cleans and restocks the unit. Twice-weekly service costs more and is quoted on request.
Can it be serviced twice a week?
Twice-weekly service is available on request. It suits large crews, busy sites and units shared by two groups. It roughly doubles how many people one unit can handle.
Do event units get cleaned during the rental?
Event units arrive cleaned, sanitized and stocked with paper and sanitizer. A mid-event service visit is an add-on, typically $45 to $85. Typical Shelton-area quote; your itemized quote is final.
Can you service it between days of a multi-day event?
A mid-event cleaning can be booked between days, Monday to Saturday. It pumps, cleans and restocks each unit. Book it with your order so it is on the route.
Will it smell?
A serviced unit has a vent, a holding tank and deodorizer, so odor stays low. Shade, regular service and a lid kept closed help most in summer.
Do you drain it before pickup?
Units are pumped and cleaned after pickup, back at the yard. You do not need to do anything except leave it closed, upright and reachable for the truck.
What if nobody can let you in for a service visit?
Call or text before the visit day to move it. Leave a gate code or unlock the gate if you can. The driver needs a clear path to pump the unit.
Choosing a unit & wheelchair access
What does a standard porta potty come with?
A standard porta potty has a toilet, urinal, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, a vent and a mirror. It needs no water or power. See standard porta potty rental.
What's the difference between standard and deluxe?
A deluxe flushing unit adds a foot-pump flush, a sink, paper towels and a mirror. It is a bit wider at about 47 inches. See deluxe flushing porta potty rental.
Does the deluxe unit need water or electricity hooked up?
The deluxe flushing unit needs no hookups. It carries its own water for the flush and sink. In freezing weather, fresh water can freeze, so ask about winter use.
Is it cheaper to get a standard plus a hand-wash station or a deluxe?
A standard unit plus a hand-wash station often costs about the same as one deluxe unit. Two or more standard units with one station usually cost less per guest.
Is the event unit different from the construction unit?
Event units come from a separate, newer fleet used only for events. Construction units stay on job sites for months. Both are cleaned and stocked before delivery.
Do you have handicap-accessible porta potties?
Wheelchair-accessible units are available. They have a ground-level entry, a 32-inch door opening, handrails and more than 16 square feet of floor. See wheelchair-accessible porta potty rental.
Is the wheelchair-accessible unit ADA approved?
The unit is wheelchair-accessible, built around ADA dimensions. ADA section 213.2 calls for at least 5 percent of clustered units to be accessible, so plan at least 1 per cluster.
How wide is the wheelchair-accessible unit?
The reference model is about 62 inches wide and 62 inches deep. Your unit may differ by an inch or two. Gates and paths need extra room.
Does the wheelchair-accessible unit have a sink?
The wheelchair-accessible unit has hand sanitizer but no sink. Pair it with a hand-wash station placed on level, firm ground nearby so wheelchair users can reach it.
Do you have units that aren't bright colored?
Ask for a gray or neutral unit when you book, for a wedding or a front yard. Colors depend on what is open for your date.
Do I need a hand-wash station if it has sanitizer?
Sanitizer works for events without food. When food is served, plan 1 hand-wash station per 2 to 3 toilets. Food vendors may also face health department hand-washing rules.
Restroom trailers
How much is a restroom trailer?
A 2-stall restroom trailer is typically $1,195 to $1,795 for a weekend. A 3 to 4 stall trailer is typically $1,895 to $2,995. Larger trailers are by quote. Typical Shelton-area quote; your itemized quote is final.
What does a restroom trailer need?
A restroom trailer needs a level spot, a 110V outlet and water. A dedicated 20-amp circuit is recommended. Water comes from a garden hose or the trailer's onboard tank. See restroom trailer rental.
What sizes do restroom trailers come in?
Restroom trailers come in 2-stall and 3 to 4 stall sizes, with larger trailers by quote. All have flushing toilets, sinks with running water, lights and climate control.
Is a trailer better than a luxury porta potty for a wedding?
A restroom trailer feels like an indoor bathroom, with running water and lights. A deluxe flushing unit costs less and needs no power. See restroom trailer vs luxury porta potty.
How many trailers do I need for my guests?
Use the guest chart on how many porta potties do I need, counting each stall as one unit. For example, 150 guests over 6 hours need 4 stalls. Add 1 if alcohol is served.
Does a restroom trailer have air conditioning?
Restroom trailers have climate control, so they stay comfortable in summer heat and on cool fall nights. That is one reason they need a 110V outlet nearby.
Can a trailer go on my lawn?
A trailer can sit on a level, firm lawn the truck can reach. Soft or sloped ground is a problem. Measure the path and check for low wires and tree limbs.
Placement & access
Does it have to be level?
The unit needs level, firm ground. Grass, gravel or pavement all work. A gentle slope is usually fine, but a steep one is not. See where to place a porta potty.
Can you put it in the backyard? How big does the gate need to be?
Backyard placement works when the truck can get reasonably close. A standard unit is about 43.5 inches wide, so the gate should be about 48 inches or wider. A wheelchair-accessible unit is about 62 inches wide.
Can I mark the spot with cones or ribbon?
Cones, tape, ribbon or a flag all work. Mark the exact spot and keep it clear of cars. The driver calls ahead and can place the unit without you there.
Does it need water or power?
Standard, deluxe and wheelchair-accessible units need no water or power. They arrive ready to use. Restroom trailers and heated hand-wash stations need a 110V outlet.
Can it go on my driveway?
A driveway is a good spot because it is level and easy to reach. Leave room to get cars in and out. Normal delivery can leave minor marks, so pick a spot you are comfortable with.
Can it go near my septic system?
Keep units off septic covers and tanks. The weight of a full unit and the truck can damage them. Pick a spot away from the tank and leach field.
Do I need a permit for a porta potty?
Units on private property usually need no separate permit. Placing one on a street or sidewalk may need town approval. Check with your town's engineering or public works office. See porta potty permits in Connecticut.
Can you anchor it on a windy or coastal site?
Units can be staked or anchored on request in windy or coastal spots. Ask when you book for shoreline towns like Milford, Stratford or Westport.
Can I move the unit myself after delivery?
Leave the unit where it was placed. A unit with waste in the tank can tip and spill. Call if it needs to move, and a driver can reposition it.
Events & weddings
How many porta potties do I need for my party?
Plan 1 unit per 50 guests for up to 4 hours, or 1 per 40 for 5 to 8 hours. Add 1 if alcohol is served. Try the porta potty calculator.
I'm having about 70 people. Is one enough?
One unit is tight for 70 guests. Plan 2 units for an event of up to 8 hours, and add a third if alcohol is served.
We have 240 wedding guests and the venue has two bathrooms. Should I add two?
For 240 guests over 6 hours, the chart calls for 6 units. With 2 indoor bathrooms, plan 4 more units, or a 3 to 4 stall restroom trailer. Add 1 if there is a bar.
What comes in an event unit?
Event units arrive cleaned, sanitized and stocked with toilet paper and hand sanitizer. They come from a newer fleet used only for events. See event porta potty rental.
It's a 3-day event, Thursday to Saturday. Same price?
One flat event price covers 1 to 5 days, so a 3-day event costs the same as one day. Add a mid-event cleaning if the units get heavy use.
Do I need a wheelchair-accessible unit at my event?
Plan at least 1 wheelchair-accessible unit in each cluster. ADA section 213.2 calls for at least 5 percent of clustered portable units to be accessible.
What do I need for a backyard party?
Most backyard parties need 1 or 2 units, plus a hand-wash station if food is served. Mark a level spot the truck can reach. See the backyard party checklist.
Do you deliver to parks and public places?
Parks and public spaces are fine with the owner's OK. Events on town property often need permission from parks and recreation. Give a nearby address and describe the spot.
What's best for a wedding?
A restroom trailer suits most formal weddings. Deluxe flushing units are a good middle step. Add one standard unit for staff and vendors. See wedding restroom rental.
Construction & home projects
How does billing work for a job site?
Job site units bill per 28-day cycle with weekly service included. The first cycle adds a delivery charge. The rental renews until you call or text for pickup. See construction porta potty rental.
How many porta potties does OSHA require?
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51 requires 1 toilet for 20 or fewer workers. Above 20, it is 1 seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers. See OSHA porta potty requirements.
How many workers can use one unit?
One standard unit serves about 10 workers on a 40-hour week with weekly service. Twice-weekly service roughly doubles that. This is a recommendation, separate from the OSHA minimum.
We're having our bathroom redone. Do you rent for a week or two?
A remodel uses the 28-day rental with weekly service, so one or two weeks is one cycle. Call or text for pickup when the job ends. See residential porta potty rental.
Our contractor said we need a porta potty. How does this work?
Order one standard unit for most crews of up to 10. Mark a level spot near the driveway. It arrives the next business day, gets weekly service and stays until you ask for pickup.
We're building a house. What's the monthly rate?
A standard job site unit is typically $165 to $245 per 28-day cycle with weekly service. The first cycle adds a delivery charge, typically $65 to $125. Typical Shelton-area quote; your itemized quote is final.
My neighbor and I are splitting one. Is that OK?
Two side-by-side sites can share one unit if the crew count allows. Place it near the property line where both crews can reach it. One person pays at booking.
We have two job sites at different addresses. Same price?
Each address gets its own quote line. Sites close to each other usually price the same. Sites 40 to 80 miles from Shelton add a distance charge.
What happens in winter on a job site?
Holding tanks are winterized from about November to March. Freshwater hand-wash stations can freeze, so use sanitizer or a heated station with a 110V outlet. See winter porta potty rental.
Can I pick it up and trailer it myself?
Rentals are delivery only. A standard unit weighs about 165 pounds empty, and a used unit holds waste that can spill. The truck delivers, services and picks it up.
